House/Senate Budget

I'm naturally quite skeptical (from experience) about alarmist email
"emergencies" and have yet to discover who the "Federation" is, but the
threat they describe is apparently quite real. My own inquiries among
NEH/NSF/NIH revealed that there is "concern, but not panic.....yet"
<actually NIH might be closer to the latter> and that letters expressing
our concern to our congressmen would be quite timely and appropriate.
Remember that (as i understand) our federal employees in the agencies are
forbidden by law to pursue this kind of advocacy on our behalf..it's up to
the public who recognize how critical anthropology is to the national
interests, or to us.

Activities of the current congress are going to affect us MUCH more broadly
than through the federal grant agencies, but it's not a bad time to review
how we can justify to the public our existence (IMHO)...
