Chimpanzee personality

Could anyone please enlighten me on the following: months ago I have briefly
noticed somewhere (I do not remember where) a short article about an
anthropologist-primatologist (her name Goodale? Goodwin? something like that?)
who had studied chimpanzees for years and had come up with a thesis that they
(the apes) posess clear, individualized personalities and should enjoy equal
protection as humans (human rights).

Can anyone give me more data on this? And direct me to a first hand source?
