Nobody has yet mentioned braces in this context, have they?
It is perfectly acceptable in this country to coerce your children into having braces for purely
cosmetic (or largely cosmetic) reasons, and braces are commonly put on 7 and 8 year old
children. The orthodontist will not care whether the child agrees (and in any case parents can
force their children to agree). And if anyone thinks it doesn't hurt they haven't had braces.
