Redesigning Introduction to Anthropology

This is not a reply to Moffatt, but to a text he included in his post:

One person that he quoted (a graduate student) wrote:

"... the book is quite enjoyable and interesting and might teach them a bit
about ethnography without all that boring kinship garbage (though now i have
to study that boring kinship stuff!)."

Then I believe Moffatt added the editorial comment:

" [I find it interesting that someone
at Duke is apparently requiring as quaint as subject as kinship!]."

My question is: How do folks on anthro-l view kinship? How widespread is the
sentiment that kinship is boring garbage?
