Thanks to Scott Holmes for sharing his experience with us.
Scott is quite right that the states in the sequence (1)
schock and disorientation, (2) anger and (3) depression
can occur in a different order. They can also repeat
themselves in different combinations. At both the personal
and cultural levels, the sequence, duration and quality of
response are all important variables. Has anyone noticed
in the people they work with a typical combination that
cannot be explained, as Scott has done in his own case, by
a sequence of events, but seems to be an indicator of
cultural patterning?
