Dear Colleague:
Would you please forward the following announcement to all of your
graduate students? Thank you.

**********ANNOUNCEMENT********

A group of University of California at Berkeley faculty and students are
organizing a panel on Human Rights for the next AAA meetings in San
Francisco in the fall. The areas we hope to address are:
* Human Rights and debates regarding truth, justice and accountability
* Truth Commissions---their processes and debates regarding individual
versus collective guilt
* Tensions between universalism and cultural relativism
* Human Rights and "transitions to democracy"
* Amnesty Laws and their impact

We currently have submissions from researchers working in Guatemala,
South Africa and Peru. We seek researchers and activists working in
other parts of the world. The deadline for receipt of application at the
American Anthropological Association's office is April 1st; thus, we need
your paper abstracts and application materials by March 22nd. If you
have any questions, please contact either theidon@qal.berkeley.edu or
theis@qal.berkeley.edu We look forward to hearing from you.
