What software do anthropologists use in the field to collect ethnographic
data, and what software(s) do they use to analyze it?

I want to purchase a suitable laptop computer for fieldwork and
dissertation writing, but am unfamiliar as yet with the specific programs
needed by anth. What data base programs? Statistic programs? Is the
program "Ethnograph" worthwhile? What might my hardware requirements
be? Where would be good places to look to find any of this info out?
