Genrous Reviews

I like the idea of generous readings. I try to be generous in my
appraisal of books when reviewing them; given the number of books out
there and the limited number any individual can read, it seems more
useful to try and explain why the reader might be interested in
reading the book than to pick faults with it.

On the other hand, I often use my reviews as a way of sorting out my own
opinions of something, and as part of a broader educational/intellectual
process involving researchers and thinkers as well as readers. These
motivations suggest taking a critical approach.

I'm going to use this as an opportunity to "advertise": if you have a
book you'd like reviewed (your own or someone else's) and are prepared
to send me a copy, I might be interested. I don't make any promises
about reviews being favourble though!
