I am passing this note along for Mitch Allen, who is the publisher of the new
Sage Publications division, ALtamira. Altamira is specializing in innovative
publishing of archaeology, anthropology, and related topics.

Altamira Press is looking for a manuscript reviewer to review for us a book
published in Spanish in Venezuela that we are considering translating into
English for worldwide distribution. Written by Iraida Vargas Arenas, it is
entitled ARQUEOLOGIA, CIENCIA Y SOCIEDAD, published in 1990 by Abre Brecha,
320 pages. It purports to include both a "south-based" philosophy of the
function of archaeology in society and a detailed case study of Venezuela to
support the theory presented in the book. I'm hoping that it will be an
important alternative to Anglo-American archaeological theorizing. If anyone
is familiar with this book, I would appreciate hearing your comments. If
anyone in the US or Canada can review the Spanish edition for me with an eye
towards its applicability to an American professional and advanced student
market, I would be doubly grateful. Please respond off-list to

Thanks, Mitch Allen, Publisher Altamira Press A Division of Sage Publications
