At the risk of making it perfectly clear why I never get any work done, I
would like to recommend--for those of you who find "junk" fiction a way to
stimulate the mind--"Metzger's Dog" by Thomas Perry. It involves the uses
made of some research on how to destabilize a society by playing on
deep-seated cultural fears, including fear of gypsies stealing children.
The fictional research was funded by a Foundation clearly not the NSF,
channeling money for a group clearly not the CIA. This will not, of
course, bear scrutiny under DAF's lens of social revolution as cause, but
may prove more satisfying in re capitalist rewards (ie,Them throwing money
at them) stifling revolution. Or not.
