I thought humans have the same NUMBER of body hairs as chimps, so that it would
not be AMOUNT of hair, but rather length, diameter, etc. that varies.

And once again we have to be careful about cause and effect, if such even
exists. It COULD be that males with longer (or whatever) hair are encouraged to
go to college in greater numbers than other males because this attribute is
positively valued in our society and therefore the people who display the
attribute are more highly valued, and encouraged to do highly valued things like
go to college.
