We have been invited to attend and film a deer dance being held in a Mayan
community in the Toledo District of Belize. As our area of study has been
until very recently restricted to the Northwest Coast and Plateau, we are in
need of some reference materials that would help us prepare for the event.
We are aware of some of the literature describing such dances in Mexico, but
do not know how similar these would be to the dances of southern Belize and
Peten Guatemala. Our Mayan friends have been taping some materials for us,
but we would like to complement these with articles/papers/films prepared by
anthropologists. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
