Subject: NEW WOMEN'S STUDIES ANTHOLOGY

The editor of a new anthology entitled

_Transforming the Disciplines: A Women's Studies Primer_
(copyright Elizabeth L. MacNabb, 2/13/95)

seeks essays that provide a general introduction to the Women's
Studies / feminist approach. Geared towards the public at large,
as well as towards beginning-level college students, this
anthology is now under consideration by a major academic press.

Essays should spell out, in simplified terms and concepts,
the most significant ways in which the author's field has been
transformed by feminism / Women's Studies. For example, the
essay on women's history (already accepted) presents a brief
overview of history as a field that was once conceived as
purely the study of kings, presidents, wars, and politics. It
then demonstrates the ways in which feminism has transformed
the study of history so that it now encompasses the private
lives of individuals, particularly those of women, as well.
Essays may include a brief bibliography of significant
works for further study, but should employ few, if any,
notations.

I am particularly interested in receiving essays from the
various science disciplines, such as chemistry, physics,
biology, and ecology. However, I still lack essays in
subjects like classics, modern languages, archeology,
and political science. Essays for some fields, such as
comp/rhet, philosophy, religion, sociology, and film
studies, have already been accepted.
