Drake University sociology department, pending final budgetary
approval, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track
appointment in sociocultural anthropology at the assistant professor
level to begin August 1996. The successful candidate will be
sophisticated in historical and contemporary theory and able to
contribute to one or more interdisciplinary programs (eg. cultural
studies, multicultural studies, Latin American studies, womensqrts
studies). Specialties are open, but we are particularly interested
in Latin America, Africa, Asia or Native Peoples of the Americas
geographic area specialty, and in a substantive specialization in
race and ethnicity, urban, post coloniality and/or transnational
linkages. Teaching load is three courses per semester. As the sole
anthropologist you will teach an introductory course, ethnographic
methods, and courses in areas of specialization. Strong commitment
to teaching and to a pedagogy of discovery characterize this eight
member department. These characteristics and ability to maintain an
active research and writing agenda are sought in the successful
candidate. Ph.D. required at time of employment. Applicants should
