Two points I saw no one make during the recent rape thread:
1. The identification of propensity to rape with "primitive"
"instinct" was not questioned. I question it. It *sure*
looks like a culture-bound syndrome to me, in any case.
2. In mulling over adaptive just-so tales for rape, I saw no
mention of the role rape can have in inducing abortion.
I understand that fitness consequences of this have been
established beyond much doubt in some other large social
mammals (baboons; lions; ...).
My link to ANTHRO-L is problematic. 'Twill be interesting to see
whether this makes it out. There's no need to reply, though; I
*do* receive confirmation when I'm successful.
