Evolution's Direction

The point is worth belaboring, I believe: Evolution, both biologically
and culturally, reveals some directions. Since S. Wilson is talking
biology, so will I. Since all life forms in the beginning were
evidently very small, so was the mean size. Because large forms have
evolved from some of the small ones, there are now both large and small
forms. The implication is that the evolution of life on earth has
produced a change in the mean size of species; and the change is in the
positive direction . It will avail nothing, in the long run, to deny
this. --Bob Graber
