Jessica,

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

In answer to your question about symbolic foods, I was married last summer
and we had an Indonesian cake - which is a conical tower of yellowish
aromatic rice garnished with little peanut and onion shavings (i believe - i have
to go back and check). It is usally served with various Indonesian side
dishes which are arranged around the cake.

The tower of rice is a symbol of longevity and fertility. It is an
all-purpose occasion cake used on birthdays as well. For us, it was also
symbolic of the time we spent together in Indonesia.

Good luck and if you have any other questions I am happy to help. I am
thinking of starting a sideline as a creative wedding consultant. (but I
am free for the first ten people)!
