I guess I must be doing something right if I'm getting hit from two sides.

Ralph and Ruby, I respect both of you for all the good work you have done.
Besides, I've enjoyed a lot of off-list correspondence with each of you
individually and I don't want to lose the pleasure of more. Please don't
sandwich me into the middle of some battle you're determined to have with
each other.

I do read a lot of works in gender studies, Ruby. Some are good, some are
bad, and some are downright ugly. I salute the good ones, reject the bad
ones, and wish the ugly ones would stop getting in the way of serious
research about what makes human beings tick.

Ralph, yesterday was Valentine's Day. If Ruby wants to call me
"sweetheart", I take it, in context, as a high compliment. And if she
didn't mean it that way, that's not my problem.

Now all of you children listen to Daddy. Don't run when you're carrying
scissors. Raise your hand for permission before you leave the room.
Brush your teeth after every meal. And don't pick on each other on MY
playground! The rest of you children, you leave Ruby and Ralph alone
so they can settle things between themselves without involving the rest
of us. So there, nyaaaa. {8:)
