Field gear

I have a couple of fieldwork questions for listers.

1. Would anyone care to share stories about how they located their site?

2. Once you found a site, how do you go about setting up living arrangements?

3. What were those living arrangements like? Here it would be interesting
to hear from a variety of people. For instance, if you have electricity you
might want to bring different gear than if you don't (e.g. good transformer
and surge protector are a must). Did you live w/ a family or in your own dwell
ing?

4. What do different people do about food and cooking?

Tangential issues: For about half of Marsha and my short fieldwork in the
Caribbean we were with my advisor and another student. We see some real
advantages and disadvantages to working with other anthros in the field. What
do you all think about groups of anthros in the same site? How many is too
many.

Finally, I for one would like to hear more people's experiences as couples and
families in the field.

P.S. I agree that a book of this kind of info would be really valuable for
people thinking about doing fieldwork or moving to a new site.
