civilized?

As to the question of aggression and "civilization," I will simply suggest
a (re)reading of Civilization and Its Discontents. Indeed, the more telling
question is not, to my mind, at what point along the evolutionary trajectory
does violence/aggression decrease but, rather, what is the relationship
between violence, aggression and a moral order of society. A psychodynamic
perspective is useful. I might also refer to recent work by Simon Harrison.
There is also a nice corpus of material on sacrifice, e.g, Girard.
