Does the Ethnographic Atlas include variables that allow one to test
various explanations for levirate marriage?

My field is not anthropology, and I am not familiar with the Atlas, but
I recently read an article by D. White and M. Burton ("Causes of
Polygyny: Ecology, Economy, Kinship, and Warfare") that has prompted me
to do a little interdisciplinary research.

I would welcome advice on the effective use of the Atlas and information
about scholars who are investigating the levirate. To help orient me to
the field, please include a brief note about your educational
background, institution, or scholarly interests. I am a Ph.D. candidate
at the University of Denver and am preparing a dissertation proposal on
levirate marriage in ancient Israelite society.
