THE TIKKUN CONFERENCE
OF
LIBERAL AND
PROGRESSIVE JEWS

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

New York City
January 16-17, 1994
Columbia University
& Congregation Ansche Chesed

The fragility of the peace process, disappointments with the degree to
which the Clinton Administration has been able to follow through on its
commitment to a politics of meaning, and a fundamental rethinking of
American politics and culture are some of the concerns that lead us to
convene a conference that is almost certain to be one of the most
interesting intellectual/cultural events in years. You don't have to be
Jewish to come to this conferenceQit will be a gathering of some of the
best minds in America. It's also an occasion for liberal and progressive
Jews to publicly insist that the conservatives who continue to dominate
the organized Jewish community do not speak for all JewsQand to publicly
reaffirm our commitment to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

And itUs more than just ideas. ItUs a perfect place to meet new people,
make new friendships, or renew old connections with people who remain
committed to tikkun (the Hebrew word for healing, repair, and
transformation of the world).
