In response to the many messages I have received regarding my original
posting on Dianic Wiccans. . .
I suppose, as has been pointed out, that I should have used the term neo- pagan
rather than pagan. Pagan generally means non- Judeo- Christian.
While I have never heard of the term "orthodox pagan", it seems to me that
this term would work for my group also. Wiccans, Druids, and Keltrians are
all orthodox forms of what is otherwise grouped under the catch- all
of neo- pagan or "new age".
The distinction, then, needs to be made as to whether the use of this term
by the Hopi was used in a classificatory way, or in an effort to distinguish
themselves from pagans of European descent.
