I just finished a course in ethnographic research (intro) and we used
the following text:

THE CULTUREAL RAL EXPERIENCE: Ethnography in Complex Society by
James P. Spradley and David W. McCurdy ISBN 0-88133-349-2

IMO it was a fantastic book, although published in '88, due to its
wonderfully brief and to the point intro and subsiquent discussion
about the subject at hand. Moreover it is followed by a dozen sample
ethnos done by the author's students, through which different approaches
in doing ethno research and field work, and different writing/presentation
styles are presented.

Finally, its five chapters include 1) The cultural experience 2) cultural
scene 3) cultual informants 4) cultural meaning and 5) cultural descripxn.

hope this will help.
