The apostrophe is one of the accepted ways to deal with accents over letters in email and elsewhere on the internet where the macros for such are generally not available. "Levi-Strauss" does, in fact, have an accent aigue over the "e".

N"Levi" as in " Levi-Strauss" is spelled without an apostrophe after the
"e." In FACT,there is never an apostrophe after the "e" in any Levi.
