deconstruct Geertz, Mr. Johnson, rather than simply mindlessly attack
him--then stick to his ideas. Geertz is one of the more interesting,
and prolific, anthropologists of our time and one who has transcended
the bounds of the discipline. He is no Margaret Mead but his influence
on other academic disciplines has been substantial. He is one of the
few late-20th century anthropologists who has some recognition as an
intellectual rather than simply a stones, bones or strange, faraway
follks specialist. Why is that??
