Race and Military; info

Info needed:
Some time (years?) ago, Time Magazine ran an article on racism in
the military. A very short paragraph mentioned research done by,
maybe, a political scientist or political anthropologist, who found
that Anglo soldiers had no problem obeying Black officiers. The
researcher had expected that the opposite would be the case.

One of my students in an Intro to Cult. Anthro. class is now
working on a project involving ethnic contact in the military, and
both of us would appreciate it if anybody could remember the name of
the above mentioned researcher or anybody else who has done similar
research.
