Moving to Boston Area

Dear anthro-listers:

I am thrilled to announce to the list that the Brazilian Ministry of
Education has granted me a fellowship to go back to Boston to finish and
defend my Ph.D. dissertation at Boston University. I plan to make my move
in mid-December/94 and stay until July/August/95 (the grant is for 12 mos.,
but I am hoping to be back before that).

My biggest problem now is finding a place to live in the Boston area, and
I was hoping some of you would be able to help me with hints,
suggestions, etc.

SInce I will be taking my two teenaged kids (13 and 15) and the grant is
rather modest (around US$2.000/month), I would rather not live right in
Boston, but rather in a small town close by (something in turn of a 45
min. to an hour's drive to Boston). Any suggestions ?

Another possibility would be to trade places with somebody who might be
coming to Bahia for fieldwork. I live in a rather nice apartment (3
bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, etc.), in a very good area of Salvador, and close
to the University. Do you know anybody who might be interested ?

In the case of a 'trade', I would consider near-by states, so long
that I could get to Boston by train or bus
at least once a week to see my advisor at BU. But I would like to have
access to library facilities in the place/town/state that I might end up.

If you can give me any hints or know anybody who would be interested in
the trade, please contact me in private.

Thanks for your attention,
