query: Would you like to listen or not?

Several years ago a letter entitled "Would You Like to Listen or Not" appeared
in the Anthropology Newsletter. In the letter, Umesh Pandey, a farmer from
North India asked for someone to help him write his story. I'm wondering if
anyone knows if his offer was ever taken up. Was Umesh Pandey's story ever
written? Did anyone out there try to contact him and what was their
experience?
