Dear Stringfellow, if that's your name: you might try first looking for
an article by David M. Schneider called, "Some Muddles in the Models: or
How the System Really Works," which I believe occurs in an old ASA
Monograph - circa 1964. This will fill you in on the basic controversy
regarding alliance vs. descent. Then just about everything written about
kinship in the 60's and 70's related (usually) to this distinction. Call
it the Levi-Straussian revolution if you will. Hard to miss.
