Hello!
A few weeks ago, I posted a query regarding instructional software for
anthropology and archaeology. The following is a brief list of programs I
have information on, but many entries still have blanks. This post will
serve two purposes: many people were interested in seeing what information
I found and, well, here it is. If anybody can fill in some of the blanks
for me that would be great, or if you know of any software programs not
listed, I would be interested in hearing about them. If there is enough
interest, I can update this list on an ongoing basis and make it available
to anybody who's interested. I am mainly interested in software which can
be used as teaching aids in anthropology and archaeology, even ones which
have been "borrowed" from other disciplines (biology, sociology..). Thank
you to everyone who contributed to this list, and thanks in advance for
anybody who can fill in some gaps.

Sasha

P.S. As part of some of the entries, I have included comments I received on
various programs as well as the name and e-mail address of people who
contributed said comments, so anybody making use of this list can contect
than for further information. I hope that this doesn't bother anybody, and
that it doesn't contravene any rules of nettiquette. Please tell me if it
does.

Comments: Bryan Feuer (bfeuer@dhvx20.csudh.edu): I used Fugawiland in an
archaeology methods class I taught about three years ago. I had quite a
lot of difficulty getting it to run on the machines in my school's computer
lab, although it ran okay on my own computer. Some of my less
computer-literate students had trouble with it. I thought it was a useful
program, though, albeit a bit simple in some aspects. I think that its
strong points lie in artifact analysis and regional data analysis
Hugh Jarvis (C129QP43@UBVM.cc.buffalo.edu): I intend to use Fugawiland
this summer in an Intro to Archaeology class. It is rather outdated in
software terms, but I think it will still prove fun for the students
