Dear Wizards of Anthro-L:

A graduate student in my department just returned from the SfAA meetings
in Cancun and expresses a new-found interest in studying American expatriates
(apparently she met some interesting people who are living down there). When
she asked me about the literature on expatriates I couldn't help her very
much, although I believe that such a literature exists.

Any help with references on this subject would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Bill Vickers

P.S. I'm sure that many of you will agree that expatriates are often
fascinating individuals. I have met many wild and wacky types in
the backwaters of the Amazon . . . . not to mention the more serious
types like retired missionaries who couldn't go home. Then there
are the communities of middle-class retirees around Guadalajara
where people can stretch their dollars while still being able to
afford maids and cooks. The variations must be considerable.
